Point Blank with Economics Editor of The Economist

It is said that having a good conversation is one of the great joys of being human. When Zanny Minton Beddoes, the Economist’s Economics Editor ruthlessly dismembers jargons like foreclosures, sub prime crisis, inter bank rates, etc, all I can say is that I enjoyed every bit of it. Economics is a fascinating field and Zanny makes it palatable for all of us who do not have a background in the subject. In the first few minutes, she lays a solid foundation giving us the whole build up to the current situation in the US followed by where she thinks it will all culminate into.

All this and much more in these 30 minutes that Zanny squeezed in from her busy day which she attributes to "America facing pretty interesting times." Presenting to you: Economics for the common man!

Hey Abhishek and Zanny!!!!

I think this was a complicated discussion made simple by zanny and Abhishek. Understanding the subprime market and its effects that the world economy is facing to be understood in simple terms is crucial because this crisis is percolating now at individual levels. With Salaries being cut and job market being slow its hitting the individuals hard. Infaltion being another factor that is adding to the woes of people. I hope that all the world economies recover from this crisis and the regulators take adequate steps to avoid such kind of troble again.

Hi

I really enjoyed the interview. I hadn\'t discovered indicast yet even though you have been around for more than 2 years! surprising.

I hope this request of mine gets a reply :-) I know the intro song that you have played is a jugalbandi from a AR Rahman show - live stuff between Sivamani and their Mridangam guy.
I haven\'t been able to procure it from any place.

Abhishek / Aditya - can you please mail the mp3 to arvindiyer84@gm ail.com ?
please please please!

Hi Arvind
We\'re glad that you liked the talk. But, it took you two years!

Btw, that tune is that of Alms for Shanti. Uday Benegal, its lead singer was on the podcast a couple of years ago and he graciously agreed to let us use that tune.

Nice blog btw. A haven for marketing students I must say.
