Oye Google Google Oye

10 years ago it was Fedex. Today, it’s Google; arguably the most famous proper noun which doubles up as a verb. In the physical world, ‘Fedex it!’ is a common phrase if you want to parcel your stuff from one part of the globe to another. Similarly for hunting something in the virtual world, ‘Zara search maar’ has given way to ‘Google kar ke dekh.’

Indian Cricket’s new avatar
By abhishek at 10 April, 2009, 12:21 am
While watching a test match between India and England, as a naïve 13 year old, I remember asking my dad about why was India still batting when it had far eclipsed England’s total of 300 odd. While researching for Thunderbirds and Enfields, one link led to another and I happened to stumble upon a few articles on the mother of all power bikes – the Harley Davidson. I meandered through some exciting stories on The Harley Owners Group (HOG), the niche audience which popularised the cult status of Harley Davidson. But what caught my eye in the Google News section was that the bike maker was pulling through its last quarter in first and second gear barely managing to survive. It posted a 58% decline in fourth quarter profits and now plans to clip 12 per cent of its workforce i.e. another 1100 people wouldn’t know how to start their day.

With a few furrows on his forehead and a grumpy look, Aamir Khan, at the end of his social message, looks into the camera and announces Atithi Devo Bhava which took me back to my school days. We had a lesson in Bal Bharati Hindi back in our school days; I do not [...]
