Voila! Danny Boyle’s Slugdog Millionnaire has made it to the Oscars in style. It has been nominated for 10 Oscars including ‘Best Picture’. After winning a few Golden globes here and a few critics awards there, this movie which has a host of Indian actors has been recognised by what is widely believed as the most coveted award in motion picture history (okay, in commercial cinema).

Some 2 million people gathered around at National mall in Washington to watch Barack Obama take oath as the 44th president of the United States. It would be interesting to know whether so many of them showed up because they didn’t have to report to work that morning. With unemployment rate hovering at 7.2 percent, the economy is facing a possible threat of deflation. Basically, USA is facing a pretty rough time. If the transfer of lands in Kashmir can arouse so much national interest, why doesn’t the bureaucratic apathy, absolute sorry state of disaster management and Central govt’s lackadaisical approach, arouse any angst in our god fearing, sensitive (as depicted jingoistically in most Bollywood movies) Indians.
