IPL falls prey to politics

The IPL is slated to move out of India for this season as the government feels ill equipped to provide security protection for the matches because the IPL dates are clashing with the election dates. So we will still have the India Premier League but out side India. It may have sounded really funny if we did not have millions riding on this decision.

A couple of years when all was hunky dory in our recession free lives, my mother had found a reason to get worried about: To somehow get her only daughter married and according to her friends, an NRI working for an IT firm would be the best match. My mother often told me that how the world has changed topsy turvy since her days. During her marriageable days, getting your daughter married to someone working in a private firm was not opined to be a good watch. Parents were also wary of sending their daughters to a faraway land whereas public jobs were supposed to be the safest, well paid and ensured a life long guarantee. IAS cadres had the highest rate in the dowry market followed by boys working in PSUs.

Irony of today’s parenting

My pediatrician friend often tells me that she gets really exasperated by her patients’ parents these days. According to her, more than the children, the parents are difficult to handle. They treat their children with hands in glove and while giving an injection it’s the mother she has to console rather than the child. She wonders how parents of this generation will raise their kids by keeping them completely away from the daily dust and grime. It’s natural to treat your child like an apple of your eye but it’s another thing to pamper them silly converting them into delicate darlings.
