India Tourism : Royal Rajasthan Train
By Aditya Mhatre at 12 January, 2009, 11:18 am
Touring Rajasthan aboard the Palace on Wheels is on my “things to do before I die” list and now there is another such train in Rajasthan - Royal Rajasthan. The train is similar to Palace on wheels to the extent that it shares its itinerary and is also a joint venture between the Rajasthan Toursim Development Corporation and the Indian Railways with an investment of Rs. 40 Crores.
The Royal Rajasthan will leave Delhi every Sunday at 6.30pm and will touch Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Bharatpur and Agra before returning to Delhi. It has 13 deluxe coaches, one super deluxe salon, four service cars and two restro bars called Swarnmahal and Shishmahal.
A similar train, The Deccan Odyssey, is operated by Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation and costs $350 per night. The suite in the Royal Rajashtan train goes for $2000 per person per night and the delum room goes for $800 and given the popularity of Palace of Wheels which is totally booked until 2010, the Rs 40 Crore investment should not be a problem to recover.
I think with a savings bank account showing less than $ 2000, its going to take a long time before I tick off Royal Rajasthan of my to-do list.
