The Dam of Woes

Every time I witness the grandeur of the Himalayas I get more and more enchanted by its majestic appeal and never ending beauty. One of the most astonishing places on the planet, “The Garhwal Hills” or Dev Bhoomi as it is popularly known, has changed for ever. With the work of Tehri Dam coming to a conclusion the water of the sacred Bhagirathi (the most prominent of the tributaries of the Ganges) is devouring the 200 year old town of Tehri. As I am writing this article the town of Tehri would be submerged under water. Ten thousand families have evacuated their native place for this Dam to become a reality.

Why Blame Varun Gandhi?

The Election Commission has advised the BJP against nominating Varun Gandhi as it has found Varun guilty of making the alleged hate speech at Pilibhit, the constituency he is standing for. The term advised says it all about the power of our Election Commission (EC). Though it has been a first in Indian electoral history that the EC has advised a political party to not field a certain candidate, the EC under current constitutional powers cannot enforce its advice.

IPL falls prey to politics

The IPL is slated to move out of India for this season as the government feels ill equipped to provide security protection for the matches because the IPL dates are clashing with the election dates. So we will still have the India Premier League but out side India. It may have sounded really funny if we did not have millions riding on this decision.
