Best Animal Movies

I am a home movie buff and this is a compilation of my favorite movies that have real animals as the lead character. Also, I have not consider the animated movies like Finding Nemo or Kung fu Panda. These movies are high on emotional quotient so a box of napkins in advised along with popcorn. Consider all movies listed as “Must watch” and are in no specific order.

Hachi: A Dog’s Tale - This is a touching story of a dog’s loyalty to his master. The director, Lasse Hallstrom, has managed to capture the chemistry between the dog (Hachi) and the owner (Richard Gere) so beautifully that it had me smiling through out the movie. The movie will definitely remind you of your favorite pet. Preferably, watch the movie with someone close and in a dim light setting. This movie will also make you want to have a pet. The book could be a good read too.

Seabiscuit - Again, a true story, this movie is about how a horse unites and inspire all those around him. The movie is a bit long but not boring. It is filled with quotes like sometimes “When the little guy doesn’t know he is a little guy, he can do great big things.” and “You don’t throw a whole life away just because it’s banged up a little”. A good watch when things aren’t really going your way. Preferably, watch this movie with friends or family. Several books have been published on these true life events

Marley & Me: One of the saddest yet engaging animal movie that I have seen. Unlike Hachi, this movie is about the owner’s affection and bonding towards his pet. I didn’t think of much of Owen Wilson as an actor but this movie changed that thought. Pet owners will be able to relate with the movie much more than others. Watch this movie alone (coz it WILL make you cry). The DVD is worth the buy.
