Did Anyone say - Weak PM?

The last elections were mainly fought by BJP by projecting BJP Prime Ministerial candidate L.K. Advani as a strong leader unlike Manmohan Singh, the Congress Prime Ministerial candidate, who was often criticized for being a weak leader by the opposition BJP, the media and by many of his own party men. Though Manmohan Singh stood his ground on the nuclear treaty issue which forced Left to withdraw support, he was still regarded as a man who worked under the aegis of Sonia Gandhi and who did not have the courage to stand his own guard.
Things have changed since the last election after Congress won a majority of seats and returned back to power with less number of troublesome allies. The same Manmohan Singh was now raised to a pedestal by the media branding him as an honest man and an intelligent economist, the only man who can bring India back to the growth trajectory hampered by the global recession.
The election results have also changed our PM’s demeanor which has shifted from being submissive to a confident man. His recent decisions after he has held office for the second term, demonstrates this confidence. He withstood the pressure mounted on him by strong ally Trinamool Congress’s chief, Mamata Banerjee, when she demanded that cyclone victims of West Bengal should be directly distributed aid by the Centre bypassing the State Government. PM firmly told her that such constitutional norms cannot be bypassed and put her in check. This is an important gesture considering Mamata’s growing confidence (or should we say over confidence!!) to push her way into things, after the recent win recorded by the Trinamool Congress.
In the international arena too, our PM delivered a very powerful message to Pakistan in the recently held, BRIC meet, where in a stern speech he stated that talks can continue only after Pak address’s terror. He managed to send across the message to not only Pakistan but also US, clearly stating India’s hard position on Pakistan sponsored terrorism. This too, at a time when Pakistan is getting a lot of international sympathy for the Taliban war going on its territory.
Clearly, these two instances show that our PM has regained his confidence after the Congress victory and the tribute paid by the stock market, and so the man is back with vengeance!!(Atleast for the time being!!)
