Is India really one nation?

If the transfer of lands in Kashmir can arouse so much national interest, why doesn’t the bureaucratic apathy, absolute sorry state of disaster management and Central govt’s lackadaisical approach, arouse any angst in our god fearing, sensitive (as depicted jingoistically in most Bollywood movies) Indians.
Is it because we take for granted that Bihar is a state meant to suffer and let to tackle their own problems? The attitude we have shown towards Bihar, or the one we show towards North eastern states and to some extent even Kashmir, makes me wonder if we will really survive as one nation!! This nation seems to work in silos where problems of some far flung state seems to be the problem of some distant nation. Even 7\11 draws more attention. Of course we have more acquaintances staying in USA than in Bihar or Kashmir. So let’s bother about US rather than providing a helping hand to the less privileged sections of our country.
Last week, when I read about Arundhati Roy, Vir Sanghvi etc espousing the solution of a separate Kashmir state, I was aghast that this way we may as well as be ready to give away most of the troubled states because there seems to be a freedom movement going on everywhere. But now I feel if such is the apathy of our Central Govt towards the less blessed states then looks like we are already living in a nation which is divided firmly along the lines of state. Separating the states on map will just be a geographic exercise.
And if we really feel that we are one nation, then, let’s do our bit for the welfare of those suffered in Bihar. Let’s contribute in accordance with our means. Even if each Mumbaikar contributes Rs.1 from his pocket, Mumbai alone with its population of more than 12 million can contribute in sizeable proportions. Let’s leave the argument about, if our money will really reach in needy hands aside. Situations regarding which we are helpless can be set aside and atleast what can be done should be done.
Any information regarding where the contributions can be made, can be retrived at Hindustan Times website / newspaper. If you know any other avenues to contribute, plz inform us..
