The Smoking Fetish

In the quest of knowing yourself you end up surprising yourself everyday. In one of my self exploration voyage I found my love for women who smoke. I somehow have some uncanny attraction to women who smoke. I find their attitude lovely and of course very sexy.

To find the reason for this kind of attraction I decided to meet a few psychologists. The surprising part to the query was that I myself am a non smoker. I have never had a longing or desire to smoke. This contradiction made me think about finding an answer to this habit. The psychologists explained that this habit is called “Smoking Fetish.” A fetish is described appropriately as, “Something, such as material object or a non sexual part of the body that arouses sexual desire and may become necessary for sexual gratification”. In my case it was the little ciggy that was reason for arousal.

Psychologists told me that this phenomenon was very common among men who did not smoke, and I was one of them. Well it felt good to know that I was not the only one with this kind of obsession.

In India smoking (by women) is a very strong social taboo. Even though we find more and more girls lighting up (good for my visual voyeuristic obsession), the health of the girls is at a very high risk. Studies show that that women get addicted faster to tobacco than men. Also to my surprise India has third largest population of women smoking in the world. It is even more disturbing fact that girls in their teens are smoking more than 5 cigarettes a day while the older women smoke much less or do not smoke at all.

These studies indicate that women do not want to identify themselves as less than men. Also it is an attempt to break the image of an “abla” (which means the feeble, to which I completely disagree) that women in India have are associated with.

Scientific study has proved tobacco to be a carcinogen and a killer and there is a worldwide uproar against the cigarette. Somehow I have a different opinion about this fact. I have experienced that any act that satisfies the self (and does not harm anyone else) is therapeutic. So, if smoking a puff is satisfying the woman it does not have any capacity to harm her. The capacity of tobacco to harm will be potent when any body gets enslaved (addicted) to the act. So, if you smoke the cigarette out of addiction or out of peer pressure it can cause damage, not otherwise.

Even though my smoking fetish continues, with all the good intentions (read love) I have for women, I would rather see them healthy and sexy rather than addicted and sexy. Amen.
