1 in 5 IBMers is an Indian

In 2003, IBM had only 9,000 employees in India which rose to 53000 in 2006 and the latest IBM employee figures reveal that the number of blue shirts (A term for IBM employees) in India has gone up to 73,000. IBM until last year had around 3,50,000 employee worldwide.
Infact, it was good to read that IBM is not just looking at India as a cheap place to get work done but also as a plce to make money. IBM executives told visiting Indian journalists last week that the company expected to see revenue from the Indian market jump to nearly $1 billion this year, from $700 million in 2006.
But it is not just India that IBM is concentrating on. They apparently have a complete strategy for the so-called “BRIC” countries of Brazil, Russia, India and China because that’s where the bucks are. Also, It just makes sense to diversify your portfolio in the high growth couuntries and reduce dependence on US revenues especially with the worsening dollar.
Here is a good article from Business world which talks about how IBM’s CEO is making his biggest bet on India
